The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named legislator Soetan Bhatoegana, a suspect in a bribery scandal involving Rudi Rubiandini, former chairman of upstream authority SKK Migas.

Soetan, a Demokrat Party politician, is the head of the House of Representatives? Commission VII which oversees among others energy affairs. He failed to win reelection in the recent national legislative election.

?The suspect as Head of the House?s Commission VII for the period of 2009-2014 is suspected of having received presents and pledges which were given (to him) in order to encourage him to do or not to do something which is in conflict with his obligations related to the decision by the House Commission VII on the 2013 Revised State Budget of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources,? KPK said in a statement obtained by Petromindo.com on Wednesday.

Soetan?s name was mentioned in the verdict of the panel judges of the Jakarta Anti Corruption Court which recently sentenced Rudi seven years in prison for receiving millions of US dollars in bribes from several parties. According to the verdict, Rudi later gave US$200,000 to Soetan as ?post fasting-month holiday bonus?.

Antara reported that aside from Soetan, KPK also named PT Kaltim Parna Industri?s President Director Artha Meri Simbolon as a suspect for her alleged involvement in the same graft case. According to the court verdict, Rudi received $522,500 from Artha Meri in exchange for his help to recommend the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources lower gas price for her ammonia company in East Kalimantan.
