Members of the House of Representatives (DPR) could not confirm on Tuesday the rumors that some legislators had planned to file petition to amend the newly passed power law and the current oil and gas law which became effective late last year.

?I have not heard about such plans,? said Irwan Prayitno who chairs DPR?s Commission VIII in charge of energy and mineral resources when contacted by Petromindo.Com.

Meanwhile, another commission member, Priyo Budisantoso, said: ?I have heard such rumors, but I am not fully certain about it.?

A source told Petromoindo.Com earlier some 14 members of DPR were in deep discussions to file petition to amend the power law and the electricity law. DPR passed the power bill into law Sept 5, while the oil and gas law was put into force last November.

Existing parliamentary regulations entail that at least 10 legislators can propose to amend laws.

The source said Permadi from Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) was among the 14 legislators who planned to file petition.

The source did not mention the articles of the laws they were proposing to amend. (godang)
