Legislators criticize ExxonMobil for lack of transparency

Oil and gas giant ExxonMobil was strongly criticized by lawmakers of the Bojonegoro regency in East Java during a hearing session with the local legislative council commission D on Monday, the local Radar Bojonegoro daily reported.
The paper said that the legislators lambasted ExxonMobil for lack of transparency and unprofessional management. They also said that the oil company had not made any contribution to the area despite already operating there for three years. ExxonMobil is drilling 19 seven oil wells in 19 sub districts of the Bojonegoro regency.
One senior lawmaker said that the acquisition of assets of Humpuss Patra Gas was not transparent.
Meanwhile, deputy manager of ExxonMobil Thor Sutanasin said that the company had not made cash contribution to the area because the local project had yet to start production. But he claimed that the company had employed many local people.(*)
