Lemigas and Total to develop CCS in Indonesia

French energy firm Total E&P Indonesie has signed a technical cooperation agreement (TCA) with Lemigas, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources' Research and Development Center, to develop carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology in Indonesia.

The TCA is effective for three years, oil and gas upstream regulator BPMIGAS said in a statement.

"The result of the cooperation is expected to give inputs for the development of CCS technology in East Kalimantan in particular and Indonesia in general," Lemigas' head Hadi Purnomo said.

The cooperation agreement was signed on Saturday in Senipah, East Kalimantan on the sidelines of the visit by Energy and Mineral Resource Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro to Total's Mahakam Block, Kutai Kertanegara, East Kalimantan.

The minister was accompanied by Director General of Oil and Gas Evita Herawati Legowo as well as officials of BPMIGAS.

Total is the largest production sharing contractor and producer of gas in Indonesia, accounting for 80 percent of gas supplies to LNG plant in Bontang, East Kalimantan. It also supplies gas to local companies such as PT. Kaltim Daya Mandiri, PT. Kaltim Pasifik Amoniak and PT. PLN. (*)
