Len to build solar cell factory with capacity of 60 MW

State company PT Len Industri plans to build a solar cell factory with a capacity of 60 megawatt in Karawang, West Java.

Len spokesman Wargita said that State Enterprises Minister Dahlan Iskand had encouraged the company to boost its solar cell production during his visit to the company?s plant in Bandung last month, Bisnis Indonesia reported Monday

Wargita said that Len had been offered to use the former factory of PT Industri Sandang Nusantara textile company in Karawang as a new fabrication facility to increase solar cell production capacity to 60 MW. The company?s existing factory in Bandung is able only to produce solar cells with combined capacity of 6 MW.

?The board of directors are optimistic Len will be able to meet the target,? he said, adding that the factory in Karawang was expected to begin commercial operation in 2013. (*)
