Lengo-2 completes successful testing program

ASX-listed AWE Limited has completed the drilling and testing program at the Lengo-2 gas appraisal well, offshore East Java, Indonesia, and the well has been successfully plugged and abandoned as planned, while the rig has been released.
The company said in a press statement over the weekend that the Lengo-2 well was drilled to a total depth of 837.6 meters (2,748 feet). As previously advised, two separate Drill Stem Tests (DST) were completed with gas samples sent for laboratory analysis.
The first DST tested the upper part of the Kujung I formation from 736m to 757m (2,415 feet to 2,485 feet) and flowed gas at a rate of 4.5 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD). The second DST was conducted over the Kujung I formation interval from 736m to 784m (2,415feet to 2,571feet) and achieved a maximum gas flow rate of 21.2 MMSCFD with the flow rate limited by surface equipment.
A wireline logging program was completed over this interval. Three cores were cut and retrieved from the Kujung I carbonate reservoir in Lengo-2 from 739m to 784m (2,425feet to 2,571feet) recovering an estimated 42m (137feet) of core.
Preliminary analysis results for DST 1, announced previously, indicate a gas composition of Methane 66 percent, Carbon Dioxide 10 percent, Nitrogen 21 percent, and other hydrocarbon gases 3 percent. These results are similar to the gas composition encountered from tests at Lengo-1. The final results of the compositional analysis for both DSTs are expected in coming weeks.
AWE?s Managing Director, Bruce Clement said that AWE and its partners will now assess these results with a view to a future commercial development. ?There is a growing market for natural gas in East Java which provides a potentially attractive destination for this gas resource, should it prove commercial,? he said.
?The flow rates from the two DSTs at Lengo-2, combined with a gas flow of 12.8 MMSCFD achieved in the Lengo-1 well in 2008 gives the Joint Venture a strong base from which to evaluate the future commercial development potential of the Lengo field,? he added.
