Coal mining firm PT Lanna Harita Indonesia (LHI) may finally end months of dispute with local cooperatives over a 60 ha plot of land in Samarinda, East Kalimantan, according to a government official.
Fadli Illa, the coordinator of a special team assigned to help settle the dispute, was quoted by the local Metro Balikpapan daily as saying that the cooperatives had agreed for a compensation.
?God willing, this problem will be cleared next week,? he said.
LHI had been locked in a dispute with local cooperatives over 60 ha plot of land which was part of its mining territory according to its mining contract, but the cooperative also claimed legal rights over the land. The dispute had caused LHI to postpone mining program in the area.
LHI is 55 percent owned by Thailand?s Lanna Lignite, 35 percent Indonesia?s Harita Group, and 10 percent Singapore? Pan United.(*)
