A local contractor called PT H & H International protested East Kalimantan oil and gas company PT Unocal Indonesia Company for appointing an "outside" contractor to develop its $4.9 million general fabrication service project.

H&H International president Sutjirdja was quoted by the local Kaltim Post daily as saying that the appointment of the outside contractor called PT GNU was in violation of the existing regulation because the project was actually only to be developed by local contractors.

He said that GNU is not from East Kalimantan but is based in Java Island.

He said that H&H is based in Balikpapan and had been in the business for 26 years employing over 320 people. He also said that the company had sufficient equipments to develop the project.

Sutjirdja filed the complaint against Unocal at the local office of the chamber of commerce and industry or Kadin. (*)
