Local government may change investor in developing Tanjung Api-Api SEZ

Monday, May 27 2019 - 04:13 AM WIB

The South Sumatera provincial government said it may change the investor in developing the Tanjung Api-Api special economic zone (SEZ) as the existing developers have yet to clear the required land for the SEZ.

Earlier, the South Sumatera provincial government named PT Sriwijaya Mandiri Sumsel (SMS), a provincial government-owned company (BUMD), and its partner PT Sriwijaya Tanjung Carat to develop the SEZ, including preparing the required land.

According to South Sumatera Governor Herman Deru, so far PT Sriwijaya Tanjung Carat only cleared few hectares of land, which is far below expectation.

STC was initially asked to clear 2,030 hectares of required land for the Tanjung Api-Api SEZ.

Herman Deru said given this condition, the provincial government has obtained potential new investor to develop the SEZ, namely PT Tri Patria which already has 2,400 hectares of land that can be cleared.

"Under my leadeship, there is PT Tri Patria that already has 2,400 hectares of land that can be cleared. The TAA SEZ would be developed in this land plot," Herman Deru was quoted by Bisnis Indonesia daily as saying.

The government has created at least twelve SEZs dispersed from the west to the east of Indonesia, which are supported by infrastructure implementation, provided with special facilities and incentives and ensured by ease of doing business.

The SEZs are designated areas endowed with geo-economic and geo-strategic advantages where special facilities and incentives are provided to attract investment.

The twelve SEZs are Arun Lhokseumawe SEZ, Sei Mangkei, Galang Batang, Tanjung Kelayang, Tanjung Api-Api on Sumatera and Bangka islands, Tanjung Lesung in Banten, Mandalika (Lombok), Maloy Batuta in North Kalimantan, Bitung in North Sulawesi, Palu (Sulawesi), Morotai in Maluku and Sorong in West Papua.
