Local govt halts Newmont copper concentrate shipment

The local government of West Sumbawa regency has halted the shipment of copper and gold miner PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara (NNT)?s copper concentrates due to the lack of a permit.
The ban was issued four days ago when MV SKOMVAER was loading copper concentrate at the company?s main port Benete pier near its mining site in Batu hijau. The mining company planned to ship 21,978 tons of copper concentrate to Brunsb?ttel, Germany.
Newmont senior official for external relations Arif Perdanakusuma said that the company regretted the local government?s decision to stop the shipment of the copper concentrate. ?It is against the existing procedures,? he said.
He did not give detail whether the problem will be resolved. (*)
