Thursday, April 20 2000 - 01:30 AM WIB

The local House of Representatives in Kolaka regency in Southeast Sulawesi province and the local administration should form a team to investigate into the seriousness of nickel mining firm PT INCO to develop its Kolaka mining site.

Legislator Sunarto was quoted by the Fajar daily as saying that the mining contract of INCO should be terminated if the company was proven to have no immediate intention to develop the 40 ha mining site.

Sunarto said that INCO had kept the mining site idle for more than 32 years.

He said that this had inhibited the development of the economy of the local area, and prevented the administration from receiving huge tax revenue if the mining site was developed. (*)
