Local parliament to summon Pertamina over fuel shortage in Pontianak

The local House of Representatives would summon the state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina to seek clarification of last week's shortage of fuel in Pontianak, West Kalimantan.

The local detik.com online quoted legislator Syafarani as saying that the House wanted to know whether there has been a piling up of the strategic commodity.

Syafarani said that the shortage of fuel could instigate social unrest if it was immediately resolved.

The town of Pontianak was hit by a shortage of fuel late last week. Pertamina president Baihaki Hakim said on Saturday that was no problem in the supply of Pertamina to the area. But he suspected that 30 percent of the supply had gone into the black market.

Meanwhile, West Kalimantan Police Chief Brig. Gen. Atok Rismanto said that the police would investigate the possible piling up of the fuel commodity. He said that such an activity was considered as a crime. (*)
