Chevron Indonesia's acting manager Usman Slamet confirmed on late Thursday that a group of people had tried to break into the company's oil complex in Jumlai area, part of the Panajam Pasir Utara regency.
According to him, the incident had been reported to related security offices and oil and gas upstream authority BP Migas but he said that incident did not affect the company's activities.
He said that the residents demanded the company to pay compensation on the alleged pollution caused by the company. The company refused to meet the demand until the court issued a verdict that the company had done something wrong, he added.
Meanwhile, the local residents said that they would continue their protests until Chevron met their compensation demand. (Godang)
