Local residents protest ExxonMobil over pollution

Local residents have protested the management of Exxon Mobil over the pollution resulted from its natural gas production and exploration activities in Lhoksukon, North Aceh, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Wednesday.

The daily said that villagers in Moncrang village have recently sent a letter protesting the improper management of the company's industrial waste, which they said, had caused pollution in their village.

The residents feared that if no immediate action is taken, the pollution would get worse and could affect thousands of villagers surrounding the company's gas production and exploration area.

"The waste management made by the company is very bad. The pollution caused by the company have worried thousands of people," a villager told the daily.

The villagers said that ExxonMobil which produces gas for the Arun natural gas liquefaction plant has brought more harm than benefits to the local people. (*)
