Local residents have reportedly forced workers at the Coastal Plains Pekanbaru CPP oil block in Riau to quit their jobs, The Jakarta Post quoting Antara news agency reported on Monday.
The CPP is jointly operated by the PT Bumi Siak Pusako (BSP) and the Pertamina's upstream oil and gas agency.
"We were not only terrorized by phone but also threatened at our workplace," Andi, an employee at the CPP, said on Saturday.
He said he and other workers were forced to stop working at Bandar Seri village, Sungai Apit subdistrict in Siak regency.
Local youths forced the workers to leave their jobs so that they could replace them, Andi said.
"The reason is that we are not local residents," he said.
Another worker Narso said a supervisor at his workplace was even extorted by local youths. "The youths have always asked us for money to buy liquor," Narso said. (*)
