Locals warned of danger in occupying Exspan ex-oil field

The local people in the Tarakan area in East Kalimantan province should be extra careful in occupying the ex-oil field of oil company PT Exspan Kalimantan, a former company official said.

The Kaltim Post daily quoted the former official as saying that the occupying of the ex-oil field had come to an alarming level.

He said that although the ex-oil field had been declared to be no longer active, but there's still possibility that the oil field could still create fire "blow outs" as shown by previous incident.

He urged people who wish to construct a house on the ex-oil field should consult first with Exspan to ensure that there would be no reopening of the non-active oil well. (*)
