Jakarta-based firm PT Logindo Samudramakmur has bought two anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessels worth Rp 500 billion to support its offshore oil and gas exploration activities, Bisnis Indonesia reported Monday.

President Director of the company, Eddy Kurniawan Logam, said the two AHTS would expand the company?s offshore exploration fleet to 59 units.

?The new ships measure 8,000 BHP and 12,000 BHP respectively,? Eddy said Friday.

One of the two vessels was built in China and the other in Batam shipyard. The company financed the procurement of the two ships from domestic and overseas bank loans.

Eddy said the national oil and gas industry was in need of more AHTS.

Upstream authority SKK Migas data found that the national oil and gas industry demanded 50 units of AHTS in 2014 to produce 3.6 billion barrels of oil through offshore exploration in the next 11 years.

?We are committed to promoting national sea transportation industry as a supporting industry of national oil business,? Eddy said. (*)
