Lombok hit by blackouts

State electricity company PT PLN has applied alternate power blackouts on Lombok island for the past two months. The Jakarta Post reported on Thursday.
The blackouts were necessary, to conduct regular maintenance of power generators, an official said Wednesday.
Planning manager of PLN West Nusa Tenggara, Santoso Januarsono, said most of the generators in Lombok still ran on diesel.
The installed capacity for Lombok is 82 Megawatts, with a peak load of 78 MW However, PLN is faced with a deficit of 3 MW during peak load periods because two of its diesel-run generators are under repair.
?To overcome power loss, PLN has to resort to alternate blackouts. We have informed customers about this,? said Santoso. (*)
