Construction work at the expansion project of the 315 MW Lontar coal-fired power plant in Tangerang, Banten Province, is expected to start soon as groundbreaking is scheduled to be held at the end of April to be led by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

Robert Aprianto Purba, a General Manager at state-owned oil and gas firm PT PLN, was quoted by Tangselpos.co.id as saying Thursday that construction work is targeted to be completed within 42 months. He said that the expansion project is aimed at strengthening power supply in the Jakarta under the Jawa-Bali power network.

Robert said that the project is targeted to be completed in September of 2019.

PLN in September of last year signed an EPC contract with a consortium comprising of Sumitomo Corp, Black and Veatch, and PT Sayatmitra Surya Perksa for the expansion of the Lontar power plant, which currently has tree generating units. (*)
