Lontar power plant supplies 300 MW to Jakarta

PLTU Lontar Banten coal-fired power plant which was officially inaugurated by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Jan. 28, 2011, will be able to provide 300 megawatt (MA) of power supply to greater Jakarta, following the operation of the high voltage power grid connecting the power plant to PLN?s existing transmission networks.

With the additional supply of 300 MW from the new power plant, the greater Jakarta area will have more power reserves to support the state power company?s services to Tangerang and Jakarta, which at present have load capacity of about 5,800 MW.

In addition to providing additional power supply, the operation of PLTU Lontar could also save oil-based fuel usage at PLTGU Muara Karang combined cycle power plant, which still mostly uses that fuel due to the lack of gas supply.

PLTU Lontar which operates three generators, each with a capacity of 315 MW, has not operated at its full capacity. When the power plant operates at full capacity, it will be able to provide at least 500 MW, enough to replace the power supply from Muara Karang power plant. It means that PLN will be able to save at least Rp 488 billion a month from the reduction of the oil-based fuel use.
