While in total the thefts in the Tempino-Plaju crude pipeline are in decline, losses could still reach up to 700 barrels of oil per day, PT Pertamina EP reported.

?We are trying to move toward 0 percent theft. The illegal tapping still occurs, in particular in Musi Banyu Asin and Musi Banyu Lincir districts. Losses are between 500 and 700 barrels a day,? PR Manager Agus Amperianto told petromindo.com.

Since a deadly incident early in October, efforts to safeguard the lane have been intensified, in cooperation with the local police and army officers to reduce illegal tapping and cut losses.

Crude oil distribution at the pipeline was disrupted on October 3 by fire during an illegal tapping activity, killing five people. The company and relevant authorities have beefed up security since.
