Several big towns in Indonesia, including greater Jakarta (Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang and Bekasi), Bandung and Surabaya are experiencing shortage of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) supply due to "problems" in two refineries owned by state owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Monday.
The shortage is expected to continue for one week, the daily said.
Pertamina's deputy director of marketing and commerce Hanung Budya Yuktyanta admitted there was a shortage of supply of the fuel, citing a trouble in the Balongan refinery in West Java and a turnaround at Balikpapan refinery in East Kalimantan.
The daily said that Pertamina is planning to import some 14 cargoes of LPG, or around 25,000 metric tons to overcome the scarcity. Balongan and Balikpapan produce a total of 800,000 tons of LPG per year. (*)
