Mahakam Ulu Regency offering renewable energies to investors

Mahakam Ulu Regency in East Kalimantan is inviting investors to develop various renewable energy business, taping various business potentias in the region.
Mahakam Ulu Regency Head Bonifisius Belawan Geh, accompanied by the Head of Regency Parliament (DPRD) Novita Bulan and local government officials presented the condition of the energy infrastructure in the Mahakam Ulu Regency at the Research and Development Agency (Litbang) of the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry last Tuesday (25/06).
Belawan Geh said the infrastructure condition in the Mahakam Ulu Regency is eft behind with other Regencies in East Kalimantan given its geographic condition which is dominated by hilly areas.
Local people also live in areas that are far from electricity access, which relies on diesel power plants.
The Head of MEMR Research Agency Dadan Kusdiana said the MEMR R&D agency will help facilitate the local government in preparing a comprehensive energy development plan, which is based on cleaner and green energy.
Belawan Geh said large part of Mahakam Ulu, which is the upstream part of the Mahakam river, has a number of power plants that have been damaged by the floods on June 14, 2019. A number of solar power plants that have been installed are yet to function well.
He expects the development of renewable energy power plants would increase the electricity ratio of the Mahakam Ulu Regency from 65 percent at present.
