PT Indonesian Bulk Terminal (IBT) has been forced to suspend the operation of its coal terminal on the Laut island off South Kalimantan following a dispute with the local people.
The company, which is a subsidiary of coal mining company PT Adaro Indonesia, declared a force majeure on its operation five days ago, an Adaro official, who wanted to remain anonymous, told Petromindo.Com Tuesday morning.
He also said that there might be a possibility that the dispute would be resolved tonight following the talks between the management and local people.
"If the dispute is resolved today, then we might resume operations tonight, " he said.
But, he refused to give further explanations about the case.
The terminal, located on major domestic and international shipping routes, is used by many coal companies in East and South Kalimantan to send their coals to export markets.
The terminal, which is a deepwater port, has the stockyard capacity of 800,000 tons and is capable of receiving 80,000 dead weight ton (DWT) vessels.
IBT is expanding the capacity of the port to 1.6 million tons with a capacity to handle 200,000 DWT vessels. (Bodega)
