Makassar Straits blocks draw international bidders

A number of international oil and gas companies are competing to get hold of exploration blocks that are located in Makassar Straits, which is part of the 12 blocks offered via regular tender round last year, a government official said.
Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources EP Director R. Priyono said late last week that a Chevron, Total SA, Anadarko Petroleum, StatOil and India?s ONGC Videsh are among companies submitting application to acquire blocks in Makassar Straits.
He declined to give further detail.
Government on August 2006 opened regular bidding round on 12 blocks, 7 of which are located in Makassar Straits. The blocks are Karama, Malunda, Mandar, Sadang, S.Mandar, Sageri and South Sageri.
Priyono said announcement of the winners will be made late this month. (godang)
