Tenaga?s Chairman Jamaludin Jarjis said Tenaga wanted to buy the coal mine owned by Dynamic Acres Sdn Bhd for 226.1 million ringgit (US$59.5 million)
The news agency however did not specify the location of the coal mine.
Several officials at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources told Petromindo.Com on Monday that they were still unaware of the purchase plan.
With the proposed purchase of the coal mine, Jamaludin said Tenaga hoped to source around 30-50 percent of its coal requirement internally with the rest being sourced from the market.
Over the next 10 years, three major coal-fired power plants owned by the company are expected to be in operation, namely Janamanjung in Perak, Jimah in Negeri Sembilan and Pulau Bunting in Kedah, the news agency reported. (Bodega)
