Malaysia's Sona Petroleum eyes 3 oil fields in Indonesia, China

Malaysian firm Sona Petroleum Bhd is reportedly seeking to acquire Singapore-listed RH Petrogas Ltd, an oil and gas company controlled by Sarawak tycoon Tan Sri Tiong Hiew Kin, owning two blocks in Indonesia.

Quoting a source, Malaysian daily The Star said on Friday in its website that Sona Petroleum is evaluating three of RH Petrogas? fields ? the Fuyu 1 Block in the Songliao Basin of China, two blocks in Indonesia, namely the Island and Basin blocks in West Papua. The field in China is in the development stage, while both the fields in West Papua are already producing.

The Basin and Island blocks in West Papua, Indonesia, have prospective resources of 432 million and 400 million barrels of oil respectively, while the Fuyu block has reserves of 27 million barrels of oil, the newspaper said. (*)
