Malaysian company to build power plant in South Sumatra

Malaysian company Profen Symmetric plans to build a gas-fired power plant with a capacity of about 200 megawatt in South Sumatra, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Tuesday.

The Malaysian company's plan to enter the power production in the province was unveiled during the meeting of its executives with the local government's senior officials recently.

Aziz Mustafa, the chairman of the Malaysian company, said that Profen would invest about US$217 million to build the power plant which was scheduled to begin its commercial operation in 2009.

The company would cooperate with state owned electricity company PLN in the construction of the power plant. A memorandum of understanding on the construction of the power plant will be signed in April," Aziz said.

The government will develop South Sumatra-Java power grid to transmit the power supply surplus from the province to Java. (*)
