Malaysian firm eyeing Sumatra coal port development

Malaysian firm MTD Group is seeking to expand investment in Indonesian coal infrastructure by eyeing development of a coal terminal in South Sumatra .

President & CEO Dato' Azmil Khalid said on Tuesday that the company is considering to build a coal terminal in Tanjung Api-Api port. He said that coal port development in South Sumatra will help boost the region?s coal export.

He did not give further detail.

MTD has set foot in Indonesian coal terminal business by operating the newly-inaugurated coal terminal in the industrial city of Cilegon in Banten province. The company through its unit PT Cigading International Bulk Terminal operates the terminal with initial throughput capacity of 6 MTPA and initial investment of US$50 million. (giok)
