A man who worked for state owned mining company PT Timah was killed due to a mining accident at the company?s tin mining pit in Sukamandi village, Damar subdistrict, East Belitung in the Bangka Belitung province on Thursday.
The worker, Effendi, 29, was killed after he was hit by falling rocks when a landslide occurred at the mining pit, security officers of the company said.
One of PT Timah?s security officers, Fahrizal, said that the mining pit had been closed because it had been too dangerous for the workers. ?But the mine was reopened, then the accident occurred,? he said, adding that they did not know why the mining operation was resumed because the condition of the mining area had been too dangerous to be operated.
The local police confirmed that the man was killed after being hit by falling stones when working at the mining site. (*)
