Marathon to drill Makassar Strait exploration block 2008

US oil company Marathon Oil plans to conduct seismic activity in its offshore Pasang Kayu exploration block in Makassar Strait in 2007, followed by drilling in 2008 and 2009, the company said in its quarterly report released Tuesday.
Marathon was awarded the block in June 2006. It said PSC contract would be signed in the third quarter of 2006. Marathon will be the block?s operator with 70 percent working interest, while Canadian top oil, gas firm Talisman Energy has the remaining balance.
The partnership pledged to conduct 2,500 kms 2D seismic and committed to drill 4 wells in the block. (alex)
