Maritime economic clusters to generate $250m energy investment

The government?s planned seven maritime economic clusters in several provinces are expected to generate investment worth up to US$250 million in the provision of energy, a minister said.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Sudirman Said stated in a statement Sunday that the ministry is in charge of ensuring the supply of energy to support the operation of the maritime economic clusters.

He said that the ministry will focus on developing local new and renewable sources of energy such as wind power, solar, marine, and biofuel to support the maritime economic clusters.

The government plans to develop maritime economic clusters in seven locations including Aceh Jaya (Aceh province), Kuala Tanjung Barat (North Sumatra), Enggano Island (Bengkulu), North Minahasa (North Sulawesi), Central Lombok (West Nusa Tenggara), Kupang (East Nusa Tenggara) and Marotai (Maluku).
