Market overview from globalCoal for February 23

Friday, February 24 2012 - 01:05 AM WIB

The physical coal market failed to live up to the liquidity of the past few sessions today, with a prices pretty much unchanged over what was a fairly moribund session. April Richards Bay tonnes were bid at $105.75/t FOB, 25 cents lower than yesterday's choice market. Paper markets firmed slightly, with Cal 13 Swap NEWC up round $0.25/t by close of play, and the same contracts on API2 and API4 also said to be higher on yesterday's closing values. Oil lost slight ground today, with front month Brent crude shedding $0.24/bbl to sit at $122.66/bbl near close of play.

In India all major port work is likely to be affected on 28th Feb'12 as Trade Unions across the country called for a one day strike. Private port work could continue but even this is uncertain. Indo coal offers were shown for 53-51 gad coals at $44.00/mt FOB; 5000 GAR at $75.00/mt & 4200 GAR at $ 53.50/mt FOB with little buying interest reported at close.
