Market overview from globalCoal for February 27
Tuesday, February 28 2012 - 01:22 AM WIB
With oil giving up early gains in the morning to end down by ~$0.80 and the Euro broadly unchanged we saw limited outside influence in coal markets. Physical trading was thinner today than at the end of last week with one trade apiece on the RB and DES. We saw Mar DES trading for Russian material at $98.85 and Apr RB1 go through at $105.25, lower by $0.75 on Friday.
A quiet start to the week for the newc market. Production is ramping up to its normal level and exports out of Newcastle have also increased. Some market participants are starting to feel the effect of the continued lack of demand from the Chinese as QHD 5500NAR price level remains low at 760-765RMB. Bids for Indonesian 5500NAR materials are shown around $90-92/mt FOB for March and April.
