Market overview from globalCoal for May 04

Saturday, May 5 2012 - 01:06 AM WIB

After yesterday's bounce higher coal markets resumed their downwards trajectory. Oil markets led the way with front month Brent losing value consistently. By the end of business Brent has fallen by nearly $4/bbl to end at ~$112.15/bbl. Coal paper values across the board fell by ~$0.85c/t following the wider energy complex lower. One physical trade for June DES for US coal only was seen at $87.00/t.

Further weakness evident in price of coal markets in Asia, with Australian 5500nar coal bid lower again today at $87 for delivery in July and August. Indonesian coal is well supplied, with few bids exciting producers or traders. The movement of alternative sources into Asia, particularly Colombian coal and US is continuing, but in smaller volumes.
