Coal prices firmed in physical and paper markets today, despite liquidity remaining thin. Prompt DES tonnes were bid up to $117.50/t DES AR late in the session, compared to $116.75/t DES AR yesterday. Paper prices also gained across Cal 12 contracts, with API2 up $1.50/t, and API4 gaining $1.25/t. Oil also made gains, with front month Brent crude up $1//bbl near the close of play to sit at $110.33/bbl.
Prices coming out of Indo seen to be seemingly slipping this week as Chinese continue to stay away and Indian traders holding to their purchase on back of comfortable stocks at ports. High GCV coal were seeing more interest than the lower sub bit coal as most State Electricity Boards are in the market with tenders. Offers for 4200 gar coal were heard around $ 55-56/mt and 4800 gar were at early 70s. (*)
