Marubeni, Alstom likely to win re-powering Muara Tawar power plant tender

State-owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara ( PLN) will likely pick a consortium made up of Japan’s Marubeni Corp. and France’s Alstom to upgrade the PLN’s Muara Tawar combined cycle power plant in Bekasi.

PLN deputy director for primary energy Tonny Agus Mulyantono said Wednesday that the consortium had a good chance to win the upgrading work as it had been the only bidder. "However, we still cannot announce the winner yet as we are still at the evaluation stage," Tonny said.

The upgrading work will increase the capacity of the Muara Tawar power plant by 225 megawatts from the current 900 MW.

Besides Muara Tawar, PLN is also in the process of selecting the winners for the upgrading of the Tanjung Priok combined cycle power plant in North Jakarta. (*)
