Marubeni, Mitsui, Kepco compete for Banten IPP project

Five international bidders has passed pre-qualification (PQ) phase of the tender for the contract to develop the 1x660 MW Banten coal-fired IPP project, an industrial source told Petromindo.Com.

The source said that the five bidders, including Japanese giant Marubeni Corp; the consortium of Japanese firm Mitsui and Indonesian firm PT Adaro Energy; South Korean utility Kepco; and Indian firm Lanco Infratech Limited.

The source did not give details.

On Nov. 24, 2010, state electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) announced the tender for the contract to develop 1x660 MW Banten coal-fired power plant.

PLN said in the announcement that the winner of the project will develop, finance, construct and operate the project under Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) scheme pursuant to a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) valid up to 25 years. The winner will also finance and construct the associated 500 kV transmission line to be transferred to PLN as a special facility. (denny)
