Marubeni wins tender for 600 MW Cirebon power plant

A consortium led by Japanese firm Marubeni has won the tender for building a 600 megawatt (MW) coal-fired power plant in Cirebon. This consortium has offered a price of US$0.4363 per kilowatt-hour (kWh).

The consortium consists of Japan's Marubeni, two South Korean companies Komipo and Sam Tan and Tripatra of Indonesia.

Marubeni and its partners defeated it lonely rival India?s Essar Group in the final phase of the tender. From the 11 bidders, these two reached the final phase.

State electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN)?s acting president director Djuanda Nugraha Ibrahim said the winner of the tender was Marubeni.

?Today (Monday), we have announced the winner,? Djuanda told reporter on Monday in Jakarta.

Though the PLN?s decision is final but as per the rules it has to wait for five days from the announcement because of a possibility of one of the bidders may question the PLN?s decision. (Godang)
