Matrix completed drill-stem test on West Kambuna 1 in N. Sumatra

Australian listed oil, gas explorer Matrix Oil NL said Monday that drill-stem testing program on West Kambuna 1 well in the Asahan Offshore production sharing contract (PSC) in the offshore North Sumatra Basin had been completed and the well had been suspended to allow for future re-entry and appraisal.

The company said the results from the primary objective suggest that the gas/ condensate accumulation initially tested at Kambuna 1 extends over a significantly wider area than mapped initially.

On the testing program, Matrix said that they did not reveal the presence of movable hydrocarbons in the other two intervals tested as recorded while drilling operation.

West Kambuna 1 was designed to test a major seismically defined structural/stratigraphic trap mapped as extending north and west from the Kambuna discovery. The well is located in 106 feet of water, some 30 km from the coastline of North Sumatra.

The West Kambuna Prospect straddles the boundary between Matrix's 75 percent owned Asahan Offshore PSC area and its 90 percent owned adjacent Glagah Kambuna technical assistance contract (TAC) area. Matrix is operator of both contract areas. (robert)
