Independent power plant firm PT Maxpower Indonesia has begun on March 6, 2026 commercial operations at a 100 megawatt gas fired power project in Batam, comprising two plants aimed at strengthening electricity supply in the industrial hub.

The project includes the 60 MW Sagulung gas engine power plant and the 40 MW Sekupang plant, the company said, marking a key milestone in expanding power capacity in the Riau Islands.

The plants are expected to improve power reliability for Batam’s industrial sector, a key manufacturing and logistics center located near Singapore.

Fazil Erwin Alfitri, President Director of PT Maxpower Indonesia, said the project would support economic growth and industrial development in the region.

“The operation of this project represents an important milestone in strengthening electricity supply reliability in Batam and its surrounding areas,” he said in a statement.

The project is part of Maxpower’s broader strategy to expand its energy portfolio and transition into a more integrated energy solutions provider in Indonesia.

Maxpower said the new plants will deliver reliable and efficient power using gas based generation technology, supporting rising electricity demand from industries and communities in Batam and nearby areas.

Maxpower is owner and operator of small and medium-size gas-fired power plants. Typically, Maxpower projects vary between 1 and 100MW in size and are completed in two to six months, supporting fast growing economies, without access to national grids or pipelines.
