PT Medco Energi Mining International (MEMI), a subsidiary of IDX-listed energy company PT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk, is teaming up with Ascot Energy in developing underground coal gasification (UCG) project in Musi Banyuasin, South Sumatra.

MEMI Vice President for Corporate Strategic and Commercial Affairs F. Harry Kristiono said on Wednesday that the company is currently waiting for principle license from the government as required regulation has yet to be issued.

?Medco hopes (it) can start exploration in 2018, starts gas flare in 2019 with potency of 5 MW, and further rise to 30 MW,? he said.

?The total investment for 30 MW is US$80 million. Initially, the gas production will be used for Medco?s power plant, and might be commercialized after that.? Harry added.
