Medco coal unit plans to produce 600,000 tons this year

Coal miner PT Duta Tambang Rekayasa (DTR), a subsidiary of PT Medco Energi Mining International, plans to produce 600,000 tons of coal this year from its concession in Nunukan Regency, East Kalimantan.

F. Hary Kristiono, Head of Marketing at DTR, said that the output target is the same as last year?s coal production volume with calorific value of 6,500 Kcal/kg.

He added that the company would maintain China as its biggest export market, accounting for about 80 percent of export volume, with India to absorb the remaining 20 percent.

Meanwhile, another Medco coal mining unit PT Duta Tambang Sumber Alam (DTSA), which has a concession in Simenggaris also in Nunukan, is currently seeking to obtain approval from the local provincial administration next year to start production.

Hary said that the company hopes to be able to obtain the approval next year, with the aim of starting production in the first quarter.
