Medco donates Rp1 billion for stranded workers in E. Kalimantan

Oil conglomerate Medco Group has allocated Rp 1 billion (US$=Rp8,860) for thousands of Indonesian workers who had fled Malaysia and are currently stranded in Nunukan in oil rich East Kalimantan, Medco said on Friday.

The donation would be channeled through the Ministry of Social Affairs and Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), it said.

Reports said some 150,000 Indonesians, who had entered Malaysia illegally, were found starving on Nunukan Island in East Kalimantan which borders Malaysia?s Sarawak. They had hastily left East Malaysia after the Malaysian government decided to hunt down illegal workers from foreign countries. (*)
