Medco: Drilling of 2nd slim hole at Ijen has reached 750m depth

PT Medco Power Indonesia (MPI) through its subsidiary PT Medco Geothermal Light (MCG) is currently drilling the second slim hole at Mount Ijen geothermal work area (WKP) in East Java Province.

Ibnu Nurzaman, Head of Corporate Counsel of the company told Petromindo.com on Wednesday that drilling of the second slim hole has reached 750 meters depth from the target of 2,000 meters. "The first slim hole has been completed with 2,000 meters depth and the results is good, currently the second slim hole has reached about 750 meters depth," he said, adding, however, that it could not predict when the second drilling program would be completed.

The company is planning to develop a geothermal power plant with capacity 2x55 MW at Ijen. For this project the company has a partnership with geothermal developer company from Philippines, Aboitiz Power Corporation. MPI is a subsidiary of IDX-listed energy company PT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk.
