Medco gets first gold rating in environmental management

PT Medco Energi Internasional, Tbk (MedcoEnergi) has received a Gold Rating in the 2010-2011 Environmental Performance Rating Program (PROPER) from the Ministry of Environmental Affairs for its success to meet sustainable environmental management and pollution reduction programs set by the ministry at the company?s Rimau oil block in South Sumatra.

The gold rating certificate, the highest rating grade in the PROPER program, was presented to the Director & Chief Operating Officer E&P MedcoEnergi, Frila Berlini Yaman by Vice President Boediono at the Environmental Awards Night on Nov.30 in Jakarta.

Medco became the first oil and gas exploration and production company to receive the gold rating in the PROPER rating program. The company also received a green rating, the second highest grade in the rating program, for several oil blocks including South Sumatra Extension, Tarakan (East Kalimantan) and Kampar (Riau) blocks. In addition, a blue rating, the third grade, is also awarded to Medco?s Sembakung block in East Kalimantan.

The PROPER rating program which has been introduced since 2002 is based on compliance on PROPER requirements such as management of water and air pollution, management of hazardous and toxic waste (B3), and other obligations relating to the company?s environmental impact assessment (AMDAL).
