Medco may start coal production late 2010

?Medco could start production next year provided that we get clearance fro Ministry of Forestry and to immediately begin construction phase,? PT Medco Energy Mining Internasional CEO Arie P Ariotedjo said on Thursday.
He said output from the mine is expected to reach 500,000 tonnes per annum in the first years.
Arie said coal from Nunukan mine has CV of more than 7,000 Kcal/kg with high sulfur content.
A number of potential offtakers from the Phillipines and Europe have expressed interest to consume the coal, he said.
Arie also said that Medco continued to search for new mines to be acquired to expand its portfolio especially in Kalimantan. He also said Medco is interested to acquire stake at BHP Billiton?s Maruway coking coal project which is currently put on sale. (denny)
