IDX-listed energy company PT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk said that its indirect coal subsidiary PT Duta Tambang Rekayasa (DTR) was able to produce 150,000 tons of coal in 2016 from its concession in Nunukan, North Kalimantan, after suspending the mine for nine months.

F. Hary Kristiono, Corporate Strategic and Commercial Vice President at PT Medco Mining Internasional (MMI), said to Petromindo.com on Wednesday that the output was the best result as the company only resumed production in October after suspending its from January.

MMI, a subsidiary of Medco Energi, owns DTR, which is producing coal with calorific value of 6,500 kcal/kg GAR.

"After halting our production in January 2016, we resumed our production in October 2016 and was able to produce around 150,000 tons until the year's end," he said, adding that all the coal produced were exported to India. In 2016, initially the company was targeting to produce around 600,000 tons coal output. But due to the sluggish coal market condition the company decided to halt its coal output.
