IDX-listed energy company PT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk said that coal production at its indirect coal subsidiary PT Duta Tambang Rekayasa (DTR) in the first quarter of 2017 was only 143,000 tons, or 93 percent of the 150,000 tons target.
F. Hary Kristiono, Corporate Strategic and Commercial Vice President at PT Medco Mining Internasional (MMI), the parent of DTR, said to Petromindo.com on Monday that the target was not achieved mainly due to heavy rainfall, which was worse than anticipated, thus hampering production activity during the period.
Harry added that the company with its MedcoCoal brand will continue to keep penetrating the Indian market specifically cement producers, and also will develop new markets in the Philippines and Thailand.
He added that the coals produced in the first quarter of this year were sent to India, Thailand and Bangladesh.
MMI, a subsidiary of Medco Energi, owns DTR, which is producing coal with calorific value of 6,500 kcal/kg GAR. DTR is targeted to produce around 600,000 tons of coal this year from its concession in Nunukan, North Kalimantan.
