Upstream company Medco E&P Indonesia, a subsidiary IDX-listed PT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk, is making further assessment together with upstream oil and gas authority SKK Migas over plan to develop Iliran High oil field in Rimau block, South Sumatra.

Head of Program and Communications Division at SKK Migas, Wisnu Tahar said on Wednesday that the assessment is needed because oil in the Iliran High field is of the heavy crude type with API gravity range of 13-18 degrees, and viscosity level of 600-6,000 centipoise that requires special treatment such as heating to help ensure smooth production process.

Meanwhile, Deputy for Planning at SKK Migas, Jaffee Arizon said that the Iliran High field is estimated to be able to produce 20,000 bpd of oil. He said that Medco is currently preparing the project design.

Medco has 95 percent stake in Rimau block with the remaining 5 percent held by South Sumatra provincial administration-owned firm Perusahaan Daerah Pertambangan & Energy Sumsel.
